What is a sleeping pod?

A sleeping pod is a compact, enclosed cabin for short daytime rest or a night's sleep. It gives one person a bed-sized space of their own inside a shared building, such as an airport, office, hostel, gym, campus or home.

The sleeping pods we sell are the Space Smart Sleeping Pods. They come in a single-layer and a double-layer version, and each cabin is soundproofed and ventilated, with a built-in sound system and a smart TV.

Step 1: Decide who will use it and where

The place decides most of your other choices. Think about how many people will use the pod, how often, and whether the space is public or private. We have written guides for the most common places:

Step 2: Measure your space

Measure the floor area and the ceiling height before anything else. Here are the sizes of our sleeping pods, length by width by height.

MeasurementMetricFeet and inches
Single-layer cabin2.06 × 1.14 × 1.5 m6′9″ × 3′9″ × 4′11″
Double-layer, single cabin2.06 × 1.44 × 2.4 m6′9″ × 4′9″ × 7′10″
Double-layer, double cabin2.06 × 1.88 × 2.4 m6′9″ × 6′2″ × 7′10″
Inner sleeping space (every cabin)1.93 × 0.95 × 1.1 m6′4″ × 3′1″ × 3′7″

Remember the route to the room as well. Measure doorways, hallways, lifts and stairs, and tell us about them when you enquire.

Step 3: Choose single-layer or double-layer

Single-layerDouble-layer

Height1.5 m2.4 m
LadderNoYes, to the upper cabin
ColourWhiteWhite, or custom on batch orders
Price (USD plus shipping)$4,995.00$8,995.00About $4,498 per cabin

Choose the single-layer pod when ceiling height is limited or you need one bed. Choose the double-layer pod when you want two beds in one unit and the room is tall enough. A standard 8 ft ceiling is 2.44 m, so a 2.4 m double-layer pod leaves very little clearance in most homes.

Step 4: Check the comfort features

  • Soundproofing: each cabin is soundproofed to help keep noise down. No enclosure blocks all sound, so ask any seller how their pod is soundproofed.
  • Ventilation: keeps air moving inside the cabin.
  • Sound system and smart TV: built into every cabin.
  • Control panel: a panel with indicator lights sits on the front of each cabin.

Step 5: Look at the material

Our shell is Taiwan Chi Mei environmental-protection ABS, the same type of material used in aircraft and high-speed rail interiors. Ask any seller what their pod is made of and where the material comes from.

Step 6: Plan delivery, power and local rules

  • Delivery: we ship to all of the USA and Canada and confirm delivery time and cost in your quote.
  • Power: the smart TV and sound system need power, so plan for an outlet nearby.
  • Local rules: for public spaces and workplaces, check building and fire requirements with your landlord, insurer or local authority before you install.

Step 7: Set your budget

Our sleeping pods are $4,995.00 USD for the single-layer version and $8,995.00 USD for the double-layer version, plus shipping. Quantity, custom colour and delivery location can change the final quote. A double-layer unit holds two cabins, which works out to about $4,498 per cabin.

Questions to ask any sleeping pod seller

  • What is the pod made of, and where does the material come from?
  • How is it soundproofed, and how is it ventilated?
  • What does the sound system and TV need for power?
  • What are the exact dimensions, and what access does delivery need?
  • What is the lead time, and what does shipping to my location cost?
  • What is covered by the warranty, and who handles installation?
  • Can I get a custom colour, and for what order size?

We are happy to answer all of these. Contact The Sleeping Pods for a quote, or see our sleeping pod pricing and FAQ.
